THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE: SIMPLIFIED

MUST KNOWS:

  • WHEN YOU VOTE, YOU'RE ACTUALLY VOTING FOR A GROUP OF PEOPLE CALLED THE "ELECTORS"

  • EACH STATE IS GIVEN A "POINT" VALUE BASED ON ITS POPULATION (AMOUNT OF ELECTORS)

    • THE VALUE IS CALCULATED BY TAKING THE NUMBER OF REPRESENTATIVES (which is based on population) A STATE HAS AND THEN ADDING TWO IN ORDER TO REPRESENT THE STATE'S SENATORS

      • FOR EXAMPLE: CALIFORNIA HAS 53 REPRESENTATIVES and 2 SENATORS, therefore, CALIFORNIA IS "worth" 55 ELECTORAL POINTS
